A Vigil to Remember Monica Thomas Harris

Monica Thomas-Harris

James Thomas comforts his daughter, Danielle Thomas, as she talks about her sister Monica Thomas-Harris at a vigil Wednesday February 13th 2008 in Covina. (Staff photo by Greg Andersen, sgvtributune.com) for a 16-month prison sentence. "I think about her every minute," said James Thomas, Thomas-Harris' father and a West Covina resident. "From the moment I go to bed at night, in the morning when I wake up, it's constantly something on my mind." During Wednesday's vigil - hosted at the Covina Woman's Club - dozens of guests remembered Thomas-Harris, whom they recalled for her humor and compassion. "My mom was so much fun," Thomas-Harris' 15-year-old daughter Shanelle said. "I will definitely miss getting into trouble and her finding out about it." Thomas-Harris' sister, Danielle Thomas, fought back tears as she remembered her, "big sis." Women's groups strike back at domestic violence

the Vigil

Join us to remember and honor Monica Thomas Harris, loving mother, daughter, sister, and friend, and seek change so that what happened NEVER happens again.

In January after being released from custody for kidnapping and assaulting his ex-wife Monica Thomas Harris, Curtis Bernard Harris kidnapped her yet again and killed her. This occurred in spite of the fact that he had been sentenced to a prison term and had a criminal record of violence. He was released without bail to “get his affairs in order”. He cowardly escaped serving his sentence by ending his own life.
